


The Royal Mint struck for circulation 538,560 pieces using an unrecorded number of dies with only 12 varieties seen [excluding proofs], consisting of 3 obverse dies paired with 12 reverse dies. On this Volume I are posted varieties JC-10 to JC-19 as follow:


C struck over smaller C of VICTORIA. Large G of D:G:. Die crack through BRITANNIAR, clash marks visible through field around Queen's hair.
High relief date. Double struck 38. Several leaves double struck in wreath. Double struck baseline of 2 and bar in fraction. With or w/o die cracks from dentil to cross in crown, from dentil to leave at 4 o'clock, from rim to left end of ribbon & through left branch in wreath.

C struck over smaller C of VICTORIA. Large G of D:G:.
High relief date. Double struck baseline and tail of 2 and bar struck over smaller one in fraction. With or w/o die cracks from dentil to leave at 2, 4, 8 & 10 o'clock, from dentil to cross in crown and weak right end of ribbon.

High relief date. Double struck first 8, second smaller 8 struck below 3's baseline. Double struck baseline and neck of 2 and bar in fraction. With or w/o die cracks from dentil to leave at 2, 4, 7 & 9 o'clock and from dentil to acorn at 8 o'clock.

High relief date. Short 1 in date. Second smaller 8 struck below 3's baseline. Double struck fraction bar. With or w/o die cracks from dentil to leave at 1 o'clock, from dentil to acorn at 7 & 10 o'clock and from dentil to right end of ribbon.
