C struck over smaller C of VICTORIA. Large G of D:G:. Weak or missing colon after G of D:G:.
High relief date. Smaller second 8. Double struck fraction bar.
Δ This coin, is possible the only known example. The specimen, auctioned on November 15th, 2001 by Spink & Sons Ltd., was catalogued as toned, mint state & extremely rare. [1]
It's been more than 10 years and has not seen another in the numismatic market. The reverse of this particular coin was struck with medal die alignment [upright die axis] ↑↑ or die rotated 180º.
Presumably the "struck for private distribution" hypothesis by the Master of the Royal Mint in honor of the coronation of Queen Victoria and to celebrate the first year of this denomination under the new monarch is the probably explanation for its production, and it is possible that were struck in 1839.
