


The Royal Mint struck for circulation 320,000 pieces in May and June of this year, using an unrecorded number of dies with only 11 varieties seen [excluding proofs], consisting of 10 obverse dies paired with 5 reverse dies. On this Volume I are posted varieties JC-10 to JC-19 as follow:

Short 1 over larger 1 & larger 8 over smaller 8 of date. Distant 2 below 6's baseline. Blunt serif in 1 and doubled struck bar of fraction. With or w/o die crack at 2 o'clock.

C of VICTORIA over smaller C. Large double struck G of D:G:. Double struck N's of BRITANNIAR. Double nose, chin and Queen's truncation. Die crack from dentil through T of BRITANNIAR to Queen's hair.
Smaller 1 over larger 1 of date. Larger 8 over smaller 8. Distant 2 above 8's baseline and over larger 2 as used in fraction, visible at baseline and neck. Flag serif in 1 of fraction over smaller 1.
